The sculpture is composed of two curved stainless steel sweeps which seemingly
defy the natural laws of balance as they arc forward into space and disappear into
the earth. Reaching towards the sky, the lines of the arcs are a human gesture. They
define open areas in their curved ascent for suspending aluminum twirls. The
smaller twirl catches the wind and rotates within; the larger twirl oscillates with
gentle breezes or can be driven by touch. This preliminary kinetic work would
later become the 14ft. h wind-driven "Going Forth."
The sculpture was designed, proposed and accepted for the Wind Through The
Trees Exhibition at the Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens featuring outdoor works in a
15 acre botanical site from October 2010-June 2011. Views show the work at the
Jenkins Arboretum, PA (see published exhibition page)
The Summit Art Center placed Moving Forward in front of their Mayor's Office
from 2012-14, and then it was displayed in the summer of 2018 "Art in Nature"
Exhibition at The Fells Arboretum in New Hampshire.
